📌Nature of the protagonist
This is a special truck produced in the 1950s. At that time, it was the largest truck in the world. Standing 5 meters tall, 5 meters wide, 15 meters long, and weighing 50 tons, it was designed by the French manufacturer Berliet in the 1950s to transport heavy equipment for the Sahara oil exploration projects. The idea behind it was to carry heavy, indivisible loads, avoiding the need to use multiple trucks to transport generators, drilling rigs, and other equipment, thus reducing operational costs. The truck was designed to handle 100 tons of material and featured conceptual choices in areas like tires and brake systems. Two Berliet T100 600hp models, powered by Cummins 24L V12 engines, were later upgraded to 700hp and fitted with larger tires (Ø2.2m). The T100 operated in Hassi-Messaoud, Algeria, and was later returned to France in 1981 for restoration and display at the Berliet Museum. Its ability to traverse sand dunes allowed it to assist in extinguishing the Gassi-Toui oil well fire in 1961-62. One model is still located in Algeria (in red). One of the trucks, equipped with a Marel dumper, also operated in a French uranium mine.
